Friedensplatz 1907
Originally, Friedensplatz was used for tournaments and for horseriding. After the drill house was built to the north of the palace (on the site of today's Hessisches Landesmuseum Darmstadt), the square was used for drill and festive parades and was therefore called Parade Square. The equestrian monument to Grand Duke Ludwig IV was erected in 1898. After the square was redesigned in 2020, an unobstructed view of the Hessisches Landesmuseum Darmstadt can now be enjoyed again from the White Tower.
Tip: From the "Obendrüber" restaurant on the roof terrace of the Henschel department stores, you not only have a great view of Friedensplatz and the Hessian State Museum, but also of the market square, the Residence Palace and the White Tower. And you can also discover the golden spheres of the Waldspirale, north of the city centre.
