1. Basic principles of Future History for processing personal data
In the following, “Future History” is used to name the service provided under the web address future-history.eu and/or Extended Vision, the operator of this service, owned by Rolf Mathis, Kaiser-Joseph-Straße 254, 79098 Freiburg, Germany.
The protection of your privacy is important to us. In the following, we want to inform you about how your data is used. For the protection of your personal data, Future History commits to the following principles:
Future History collects, processes and uses your personal data in accordance with data privacy legislation of the Federal Republic of Germany as well as data privacy regulations of the European Union.
At any time, you are entitled to be informed about the data we have collected from you. If you have agreed to the use of your data, you can revoke this any time. Any requests for information, enquiries for disclosure or revocations to data processing can be submitted via e-mail to datenschutz@future-history.eu or by surface mail to the address given below.
The service provider in accordance with § 13 Telemediengesetz (tele-media law, in the following TMG) and the liable entity in accordance with § 3 para 7 BDSG is Extended Vision, owned by Rolf Mathis, Kaiser-Joseph-Straße 254, 79098 Freiburg, Germany.
2. Established expressions of this privacy policy
In its privacy policy, Future History uses established expressions as follows:
- “Future History services” describes all services offered by Future History via its website over the internet and mobile services as well as via apps.
- “Future History App” describes a mobile application available for smartphones and tablets (among others) with which it is possible to access Future history Services.
- “Social network” describes the comments, messaging and follower areas that are part of Future History services.
- “Future History profile” is the area of Future History services where your personal data is shown as provided by yourself in the social network according to your specifications and with your consent.
- “Future History members” are all members registered with a visible Future History profile.
- “Registration specifications” are all personal data you have to provide in the course of getting registered for Future History services (mandatory fields).
3. Why do we collect personal data ?
Principally, the Future History websites are freely available to all users without collecting personal data. You do not have to register to use Future History services.
For you to be able to use Future History services, Future History collects, saves and processes personal data. This applies in particular if you provide your own contents on the Future History sites or if you are using the Future History apps. Future History uses your personal data only for enabling you to make demands on the areas of Future History which require registration. In no case whatsoever, Future History will forward your personal data to third parties for purposes of promotion or marketing or without your consent.
4. Extent, type and processing of collected personal data
4.1 Registration details
For the Future History services to work properly, Future History has to ask you for certain personal data upon registration and process them. This encompasses the following data:
- User name
- Password
- First name
- Surname
- E-mail address
- Postal address
Out of your registration details, only your user name is publicly visible. Your user name does not have to be your real name, an alias is also possible. All other registration details are not visible under any circumstances at any time to other Future History members or the general public. Future History will not forward these data to third parties under any circumstances and/or inform third parties about them in any other manner.
For the registration, we use the so-called double opt-in procedure, i.e. your registration is not finished until you have confirmed it by clicking on the link contained in an e-mail that will have been sent to you for this purpose. If this confirmation is not carried out within 48 hours, Future History deletes your registration from the database automatically.
In order to prevent third parties from getting access to your registration details, these are encrypted with SSL.
4.2 Voluntary details
Apart from the registration details, you can voluntarily add further details in your profile in order to show what you are interested in as well as to give Future History the possibility to better get to know your attitudes and preferences so as to suggest suitable contents. This refers to the following data in particular:
- Profile picture
- About myself
- Interests
- Gender
- Date of birth
Out of your voluntary information, your profile picture as well as the details on “About myself” and “Interests” are visible for Future History members and the general public.
Under “My profile”, you can administer and change any of your details.
4.3 Pictures, tours and activities
The pictures and tours you upload are visible to all Future History members as well as the general public at any time. Your profile reveals chronologically which pictures and tours you have uploaded to Future History.
Furthermore, your profile allows insight into your last four activities on the Future History homepage. Only activities are shown that are visible to Future History members and the general public anyway, such as uploaded pictures and tours or comments.
4.4 Personal reference figures
On your profile, your following personal reference figures can be viewed by any Future History members as well as the general public:
- The number of pictures you have uploaded
- The number of tours you have uploaded
- The number of your followers
- How frequently other Future History members have added any of your pictures to their collection.
4.5 Comments and messages
You can comment pictures and tours of other Future History members as well as respond to comments on your pictures and tours. Your comments are visible to Future History members and the general public. You can delete any comment you made at any time.
You can send messages to other Future History members of your choice in order to get in touch with them – and vice versa. Your private messages are visible only to you and your dialogue partner, i.e. not to other Future History members or the general public.
4.6 Deletion of your Future History profile
If you delete your Future History profile, you can choose whether the contents you uploaded (pictures and tours) as well as your public statements, in particular your comments, can still be visible as anonymous to any Future History members or whether any contents and comments you uploaded and entered are to be deleted. In any case, your Future History profile is not available any longer and is marked as deleted. Any registration and voluntary additional details are deleted in any case.
5. Newsletter, weekly status e-mails
The e-mail address(es) you provide can be used by Future History to electronically send you regular newsletters or status e-mails as well as promotional offers for our own similar products and services (in the following “newsletter”). For this purpose, Future History also uses the so-called double opt-in procedure, i.e. you only get the newsletter if you actively clicked on the checkbox “I’d like to subscribe to the newsletter with information on Future History” during your registration or later under “My profile” and confirmed this by clicking on the respective link in the confirmation e-mail you received from us afterwards. In the newsletters, Future History might, for example, inform you about new Future History features, suggest interesting contents or send you certain personal reference figures.
You can unsubscribe from the newsletter at any time in your profile on the Future History website or via the link provided at the bottom of every newsletter.
6. Contact form
When using the contact form provided on the Future History website for contacting Future History, your e-mail address and name are saved by us in order to be able to respond to your enquiries.
7. Using the Future History app
With the operating system functionality of your mobile device (smartphone / tablet), the Future History app determines your current location. We use this information to show you your current location on the map, to help you navigate to your destination and to suggest pictures and stops in your surroundings for your convenience. Your location data is not gathered or systematically analysed, neither in a personal nor in an anonymised manner.
The transfer of any data from the server to the app is encrypted via https.
In order to continuously improve the quality of Future History, we particularly collect and analyse the following actions in an anonymised and aggregated way:
- Start of the app
- Choice of pictures and stops
- Full-screen view of the picture
- Errors and crashes of the app
These data are processes anonymously and in an aggregated way. They do not enable any tracking of your identity.
8. Cookies
Some of our websites use so-called cookies. Cookies do not cause any harm to your computer or other end device, and they do not contain any viruses. They are small text files which are saved on your hard disk by your browser. Their purpose is to make our service more user-friendly, more effective and safer.
Most cookies we use are so-called “session cookies”. They are deleted automatically at the end of your visit. Other cookies remain on your end device until you delete them. These cookies enable us to recognise your browser upon your next visit and, for instance, to automatically log you back in.
You can adjust your browser settings in a way that it informs you about incoming cookies and enables you to authorise them only individually, to rule out accepting cookies in particular cases or completely as well as to activate their automatic deletion upon closing the browser. The deactivation of cookies can constrain the functionality of Future History services.
When using Future History services that are partly or completely also offered by third parties, these third parties may also save their own cookies on your computer or end device.

9. Log files
With every site visit, access data are saved in a log file, the server log. The ensuing dataset contains the following data:
the IP address, date and time of the server query, the host name of the accessing computer, the name of the requested file, the website from which you got to the requested site (referring URL) as well as the product and version information of your browser (browser type / version) and the operating system.
These data cannot be assigned to any particular persons. A junction of these data with other data sources does not take place. We reserve the right to review these data in retrospect if there are clear indications of an unlawful use of our services.

11. Data privacy declaration for using Google Analytics
Our websites use elements of the web analysis service Google Analytics. Its provider is Google Inc., 1600 Amphitheatre Parkway, Mountain View, CA 94043, USA. Google Analytics uses so-called “Cookies” – text files that are saved to your computer and which enable analysing how you use the website. The information compiled by the cookie about your website usage are usually transferred to and saved on a Google server in the USA.
In case of an activation of the IP anonymization on our websites, your IP address is trimmed in advance by Google within the European Union and in contracting states of the Agreement on the European Economic Area. Only in exceptional cases, your complete IP address is transferred to a Google server in the USA and then gets trimmed. Google will utilise this information on behalf of Future History (as the operator of these websites) in order to analyse your usage of these sites, to compile reports about the activities on these sites and to provide further services in conjunction with the usage of these sites as well as the internet for Future History as the operator of these websites. The IP address that is transferred by your browser via Google Analytics will not be merged with other Google data.
You can prevent the saving of cookies by configuring the respective setting in your browser software; however, we’d like to inform you that in this case, you may not be able to completely make use of all functions of this website. 13. Data privacy declaration for using YouTube
Our website uses plug-ins of YouTube, which is operated by Google. The operator of these sites is YouTube, LLC, 901 Cherry Ave., San Bruno, CA 94066, USA. If you visit one of our websites that contains a YouTube plug-in, a connection to YouTube’s servers gets established. This way, the YouTube server gains knowledge about your visit to our sites.
