Villa Profitlich 1912
The owner of the factory for processing and refining furs was Ernst Profitlich (1855-1919). In 1909/10, the Berlin architect Wilhelm Baron von Tettau was assigned to build a representative mansion on the town wall for the Profitlich family. The factory grounds extend from there to the river Rhine. Between 1873 and 1914 rabbit furs were so refined that they could pass for seals or sables. A furrier could sew fine fur coats from these skins. At that time fur coats were in high demand.
The mansion shows typical art nouveau features. The floor plan and the interior design are mostly well-preserved. The mansion is still owned by the family. After World War II various persons were temporarily accommodated in the large house, amongst those, the poet Stefan Andres who had just returned from exile in Italy.
