Wilhelminenstraße 1910
One of the city's special streets is Wilhelminenstraße. Starting at the lively traffic junction Luisenplatz, it climbs - slowly at first, then more and more steeply - up to the church of St. Ludwig, which Darmstadters like to call the "domed church". It was built in 1827 by Georg Moller on the model of the Roman Pantheon. The colourful interior, which was renovated from 2002-2005 according to plans by contemporary artists, is also worth seeing.
Today, Wilhelminenstraße is one of the inner-city shopping streets with numerous owner-operated shops, cafés and restaurants.
