Werderstraße towards east 1915
It was not the bus that stopped in front of this station but a local train with a locomotive and actual little carriages – one for passengers with a view in front and another one for the luggage of spa guests behind.
The little train rode between Müllheim station and the centre of Badenweiler from 1896 to 1955 until road transport took over. The small train station was torn down in 1968 so as to provide more space for changed traffic flows.
The title of a “town” that was granted to Müllheim in 1810 meant a noticeable boom for this settlement of wine and mills. Ample new roads had to be built, especially the “Neue Straße” (“New Road”) that was finished in 1826 and was later renamed after famous Prussian General August von Werder.
