Market Square 2018

Since its elevation to the status of a city in 1330, Darmstadt's weekly and annual markets have been held on this oldest square. The market fountain was the city's only public water supply until the 16th century.

Under the market square is an underground storage facility built in the 1950s, which is now used by the market vendors of the popular weekly market. After the renovation of the market cellars in 2020/2021, more space has been created in the north-east corner for the weekly market and the neighbouring restaurants.
