Von Loe Monument
Baron Felix von Loe is commemorated in Kempen not only by the street named after him, but also by this monument on the castle meadow. It was erected in July 1901 and depicts the founder and first president of the Rhenish Farmers' Association.
Born in 1825 at Schloss Wissen near Weeze, the nobleman succeeded in establishing an organisation that vehemently represented the interests of the agricultural community. The founding meeting of this influential association took place in the hall of the former Hotel Herriger in Kempen. Within 14 years, around 40,000 farmers had joined.
Just five years after his death on 26 May 1896, his monument was unveiled at the castle. At the ceremony, the keynote speaker, Count von Spee, praised not only his services to the farmers' association, but also his character, his religiosity and his love of his country.
