House Moosgasse 7

The crown in the skylight indicates a noble builder

This modest 17th-century patrician house is a two-storey gabled building with three bays. Distinctive features include its doorway with bluestone jambs and the wrought-iron coat of arms set into the skylight above the entrance. At the rear, stables and storage rooms were once accessible through gates on both sides.

In an unpublished manuscript, former city archivist Jakob Hermes refers to the property as Haus Claaßen, though the original builder remains unknown.

The five-pointed crown in the skylight, crafted between 1770 and 1790, suggests that the owner was of noble rank. The prominent letter “C” has given rise to various interpretations, but its exact meaning is still uncertain.
