Little Vatican
The wall anchors on the façade of this building on Kirchstraße show that it was constructed in 1668. Above the door are the initials of the builder, Michael Pasch. From a distance, the carefully restored weathervane atop the triple-curved gable can be seen, depicting Thomas à Kempis at work.
In the shadow of the church, the building once housed people and institutions connected with the parish, including the sexton, the organist, and at times the church treasury. Following a renovation in 1984, it became home to the Sisters of the Common Life.
In 1976, the lectors’ circle of the provost church, which met here, gave the building its nickname Vatikänchen (“Little Vatican”), now displayed on a sign.
For passers-by, this elegant corner building provides a charming transition from the bustling shopping streets to the quiet of the church square, nestled among the surrounding houses.
