Former noble inn "Zum Wilden Mann"

Ah, there you are again. I wanted to tell you how I came by my honorary name.

Once, I was in Coburg for business. Things were quite lively, and I had a beer or two. But when I wanted to make my way back, the guard wouldn’t let me through the city gate. Without a second thought, I drew my rapier to clear my way.

A wild brawl broke out. Well, I was outnumbered… They locked me up, and the chancellor even tried to extract an apology from me. But not from Hans Veit, the Fourth of Würtzburg. Instead, I smashed everything to pieces and handed out slaps left and right.

It was all for nothing... After paying a fine of 600 talers, I was finally allowed to ride home. My reputation had preceded me. In my honor, I named my noble inn "Zum Wilden Mann."

For all who can read, I had the inscription carved in stone:

“Dis Haus stehet zur rechten Handt. Zum wildten Mann wird es genandt. Gebauet anno Christi 1630.”

In the meantime, quite a few things have been renovated and updated. The mansard roof, which allows you to stand comfortably in the upper floor, was re-roofed with slate tiles.Good thing too, because in 1892, even Ludwig the Third, King of Bavaria, stayed here. After World War I, the building briefly served as a post office, Reich Labor Service camp, refugee home, and library. It hasn’t been an inn for a long time. The town councilmen have now made themselves comfortable here. It suits them quite well.
