Welcome to the beautiful town of Mitwitz and to our self-guided tour, Mitwitzer Stories. My name is Oliver Plewa, and I am the mayor of Mitwitz. I am delighted that you want to learn more about our hometown. Mitwitz is often referred to as the "Gateway to the Franconian Forest." Thanks to our diverse cultural and pond landscapes, we offer a rich recreational area with many exciting excursion opportunities. Mitwitz is also known as the birthplace of the Green Belt, a unique natural monument that emerged along the former inner-German border.

Take your time exploring our town's 800-year-old history. Of course, you can pause the tour whenever you like and enjoy Mitwitz’s hospitality in one of our cozy inns or cafés.

To guide you on this journey, I can think of no one better than our Wild Man. Now, I wish you a wonderful time in Mitwitz and lots of enjoyment with our Gschichtn (stories).

Appearance of "The Wild Man"

Welcome, travelers! What brings you to the charming town of Mitwitz? Are you just passing through, or do you intend to stay for a while? Is it trade that has brought you here, or are you looking to spend a few leisurely hours at our Wasserschloss (moated castle)?

Why so silent? Perhaps a mug of beer or even a glass of wine in one of our fine inns will loosen your tongues. One of them even bears my name!

Allow me to introduce myself: Hans Veit IV of Würzburg. But everyone knows me as The Wild Man.

Why, you ask? Ah, more on that later! For centuries, we Freiherren von Würtzburg (Barons of Würtzburg) have shaped the fate of Mitwitz. Even today, we leave our mark on the town, with its landmarks such as the Wasserschloss, the Obere Schloss (Upper Castle), and St. James Church.

But enough talk—my legs are getting restless.
