Bauländer Heimatmuseum

Welcome to the Bauländer Local History Museum. Here in the tithe barn of the Imperial Baron of Adelsheim, dating from 1758, the tithe – the farmers' tax – was once stored. Today, it preserves a veritable treasure trove of memories from life in Adelsheim. Take a look inside.

This was once the stables. The tools on display today were used by farmers to prepare green spelt. Green spelt was discovered here in the region during a famine in the 17th century. At that time, spelt was harvested while still green and dried over a beech wood fire. What arose out of necessity is now a culinary cultural asset.

If you want to know what people bought later on, in better times, you can take a look around the corner shop next door...
In the former granary of the tithe barn, members of the Bauländer Trachtengruppe Adelsheim show us a highly original example of a wedding cabinet.

This wedding cabinet was probably brought into the marriage over 200 years ago by the bride's parents as part of the dowry. The painter of the piece of furniture showed his sense of humor with the inscription:

Listen, beloved hen, recognize me as your husband, avoid all strange roosters, otherwise I will cut off your nose. Yes, my rooster, who wouldn't laugh at such curious sayings? If they were put into practice, many people would have to live without a nose.

With its recreated living rooms, the Bauländer Heimatmuseum gives an impression of what rural and middle-class life was once like.Occupation and income are also reflected in the furnishings of the living rooms.

The museum's attic houses the most valuable artifacts from the town's history. Here you can follow in the footsteps of the Imperial Barons of Adelsheim.

Curious? Then turn back time with us and take a journey through Adelsheim's history at the Bauländer Heimatmuseum. Opening hours and further information can be found in the text for this station.
