US Community Kindergarten um 2000

Kindergartens in German US barracks fulfilled an important function for military families. However, unlike schools, they were not part of pre-military education.

Not only did they provide a safe and supervised environment for children while their parents were on duty, but they also promoted the social and emotional development of the little ones.

In addition, the kindergartens supported the integration of families into the local community and served as a platform for exchange between families. They helped overcome cultural barriers and enabled children to make friends, which was particularly important as many families moved frequently.

Due to the soldiers' very different duty rosters, the kindergarten's opening hours depended on how the barracks management scheduled exercises and maneuvers, for example. The building, which was constructed during the time of the German Wehrmacht, is still used as a kindergarten today.
