The office building for the commanding general of various units was located approximately at this point. In the stairwell stood an eagle carved in stone, which dated back to the Reichswehr and was considered a symbol of the Luftwaffe.

There was also wall paneling made of natural stone from the German era. This was redesigned during American use with a large painting. It depicted the crossing of the Rhine by the 3rd US Army under General Patton in March 1945. The command posts in the German US barracks had a variety of tasks and functions relating to both military and administrative organization. Here are some of the most important aspects:

• Military leadership: The commandantures were responsible for the military leadership of the respective barracks. This included discipline and the deployment of the troops stationed there, as well as the implementation of exercises and training

• Coordination with civilian authorities: In many cases, the command headquarters worked closely with German authorities or determined political and social actions, especially until the Federal Republic of Germany was granted a "kind of partial sovereignty." This could include coordination at joint events or cooperation in emergencies.
   
• Community support: Commandantures often played a role in supporting soldiers and their families by offering social programs, recreational activities, and services that improved life in the barracks and the surrounding area.
   
• Infrastructure management: Commandantures were also responsible for maintaining and operating infrastructure within the barracks, including residential buildings, administrative buildings, and recreational facilities.
