US Community Church um 1985

No buildings were planned for religious events in the barracks of the Third Reich. Therefore, the chapels were not built until the barracks were taken over by the US. The so-called "Chapel" was built in the early 1950s by the US military as Building 136.

It served American soldiers and their families as a place for worship and religious gatherings of all denominations. Many weddings also took place here.

Inside, there are towering stained glass windows that create a special atmosphere; a small wooden bell tower with a helmet roof crowns the building. Each of the chapels in Augsburg (Sheridan Barracks, Reese Barracks and Flak Barracks) has a different tower shape.

After the withdrawal of US troops, the building became the property of the city of Augsburg. The future of the chapel is still uncertain, as there are discussions about its use and preservation. Originally, demolition was planned, but since 2023 it has been listed as a historical monument in the Bavarian monument register.
