The Sheridan Barracks always had a special aura compared to the other barracks due to its overall appearance. Not least because cultural and military celebrations were held there in the officers' mess, and sometimes important decisions were made. The 600-meter-long and 80-meter-wide meadow in the southern part of the barracks also allowed US troops to hold large parades, helicopter exercises during the Cold War, or use it for sports as athletic field. Nowhere else in the Augsburg city area was there a place that offered such an unobstructed view.

After decades of maintenance, the barracks ultimately took on the appearance that the original planners had intended in their barracks philosophy and for military camouflage. The dense trees and greenery, together with the ideologically influenced military buildings, gave the Sheridan Barracks a different, incomparable barracks atmosphere in every corner. The Americanization of Nazi barracks construction culture was historically unique and, over decades, led to an unusual military appearance between the builders' thinking and the actual users.
