Holzmarkt

The Holzmarkt is a picturesque spot that invites photographers to capture its beauty. Take a moment to stand at the corner of the open town stream, gazing towards the White Tower – simply breathtaking. And if you look straight ahead, you'll see the mighty Salzstadel, built in 1513. For centuries, it served as a warehouse for salt and wine.

A glance to the left reveals the "Stadteich," dating back to 1484, also adorned with a stepped gable, where municipal officials oversaw the sale of imported goods, ensuring accurate measures and weights.

Across from the Salzstadel stands the Strölin-Haus. In 1590, Ulm nobleman Friedrich Strölin had his town residence built here. While not at the heart of Biberach's high society, he wasn't far off. Two stone lions still guard the former portal to this day.

Turning around, you'll see the Dinglinger-Haus. The exterior still echoes the grandeur of its past and was likely financed by one of the Dinglinger brothers. The oldest, Johann Melchior Dinglinger, the esteemed court jeweler of Augustus the Strong of Saxony, was born in Biberach in 1664. He achieved a high reputation in Dresden. Interestingly, two of his five wives hailed from this very town. Perhaps he missed the local handmade Swabian noodles called „Spätzle”?

Completing the square is the "Stadtadvokatenhaus." Step through its grand gates, and you'll find yourself in a small garden, an idyllic scene from days long gone. The open town brook used to cross this square. Here, just after entering the town, it was still clean and people were busy washing clothes.
